I’d like to take a moment to introduce my lovely wife Janice, who will be contributing regularly here at Simply P Squared with a series entitled “Frugal Foodology…Fabulous Food Experiences.Conscious Spending”. I won’t say much more as I’ll leave it to her to fill you in on the details below…
- Phil
I love trying new restaurants and experimenting with gourmet recipes at home. But I’m a busy, young working professional who is often short on time and energy. I live for good food but just like you, shop on a budget. And though I love to cook, often after a busy day at work the last thing I want to do is spend hours in the kitchen preparing dinner. Going out to eat is fun, but can get really expensive (and is often not the healthiest option)! Frugal Foodology is a collaboration with my husband Phil towards:
- Eating well and deliciously on $400/month for two (this ends up averaging $10 a day per person for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). This includes cooking at home and eating out.
- Food experiences made with as many fresh ingredients as possible.
- Catering to a busy schedule.
What Frugal Foodology Is not:
- All about organic and locally grown. While these concepts are awesome and something that we support, this will not be the focus of this series.
I believe that fabulous food experiences are not reserved only for individuals with tons of money and time. With a little planning and savvy, anyone can eat fabulously on a dime! I’ll be checking in regularly to share the details of our quest, and Phil will be backing me up with the supporting metrics so you can get a feel for how we are doing along the way.
Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to say hello in the comments below and I look forward to sharing our experiences as we move forward with this journey.

Janice, I hope you will consider baked beets in a future blog…
Good Idea! Know of any good recipes? We can try to incorporate this in to next weeks menu…
